What is CareerQuest about? ----------------

 CareerQuest blends work-based learning with mentorship and real-world projects to help high school students master essential ELA and Math skills. For public and charter school students CareerQuest provides meaningful work-based learning experiences that fulfill Colorado’s graduation requirements through the Menu of Options. 


Our goal with CareerQuest:


To provide high school students with meaningful work-based learning experiences that fulfill Colorado’s graduation requirements through the Menu of Options, while authentically developing Reading, Writing, Communicating (RWC), and Math competencies.

Some program goals:

  • Connect students with local businesses and industries through partnerships coordinated by One World Quest.
  • Provide work-based instruction delivered by UCCS college interns and business mentors with real-world expertise.
  • Equip students with practical ELA and Math skills through hands-on projects that mirror real workplace challenges.
  • Inspire career exploration and skill development by immersing students in authentic learning environments led by industry professionals.

CareerQuest statistics

CareerQuest has two main pathways:

ELA Pathway (RWC Competency)

Math Pathways (Math Competency)

Math Pathways (Math Competency)

Semester Long Course Work Two Cohort Pathways:

  • Leadership, Research, and Marketing
  • Leadership, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship

Semester Long Course Work Two Cohort Pathways:

  • Leadership, Finance, and Budgeting
  • Leadership, Coding, and Cybersecurity

Each pathway includes:

  • Instruction on content by UCCS college interns who serve as Team Leads
  • Guest speakers from local businesses and industry partners
  • Authentic challenges/problems submitted by local businesses and industry partners
  • Student Final presentations to their peers, teacher supervisor, principal, One World Quest, and the business/partner organization at the end of the semester

Solutions developed by students may be adopted or implemented by the participating businesses or industry partners, creating real impact and reinforcing the authenticity of the work-based learning experience.

Program Components

Description:

CareerQuest is a hybrid work-based learning program that connects high school students with real-world experiences through guided instruction, industry mentorship, and authentic problem-solving. Designed to meet Colorado’s graduation requirements, CareerQuest offers cohorted pathways in ELA and Math that develop essential competencies in Reading, Writing, Communicating, and Mathematics. Students learn alongside college interns and business professionals while working on meaningful projects that prepare them for life beyond graduation.

Required Program Components:

  • Groups of 10–20 students per Cohort.
  • Students will have the same Team Lead for a minimum of 80% of Team Leading sessions.
  • Student’s Team Lead is prepared and on time for at least 18 of the 20 sessions.
  • Continually update the WBL Coordinator to provide updated information regarding lesson topics, participation, and attendance.

The School/District Commits to:

  • Provide a minimum of 45 minutes per day, at least 2 days a week during the academic day for CareerQuest lessons and student collaboration.
  • Students must have access to computers and/or laptops during each CareerQuest lesson.
  • Provide a teacher/licensed staff to be the Teacher Advisor and actively monitor students during each CareerQuest lesson.
  • Provide a learning environment with minimal distractions for CareerQuest. Teacher Advisor will not conduct other small groups/classes during the CareerQuest lessons.
  • Ensure CareerQuest students attend 80% or more of their lessons.
  • Schools MUST inform WBL Coordinator of any cancellations due to special schedules, assemblies, or field trips at LEAST 24 hours prior. Otherwise, the school/district will be charged additionally for the lesson.
  • In case of a weather delay or closure, please email/text WBL Coordinator as soon as possible.
